ElderFIT, a platform connecting older adults and their families with personal trainers specializing in senior fitness, has launched a new Fitness vs. Assisted Living Cost Calculator designed to help families understand the financial differences between in-home senior fitness and assisted living.
The interactive calculator allows users to select or enter an estimated monthly assisted-living cost and compare it with the cost of hiring an in-home personal trainer one to four times per week.
“Families often think about senior fitness primarily in terms of health, but maintaining strength, balance and mobility can also play an important role in helping an older adult remain independent at home,” said Dave Manzer, Co-Founder of ElderFIT. “We created this calculator to give families a simple way to put those costs side by side and start thinking about fitness as part of a broader aging-in-place strategy.”
A Personalized Cost Comparison
Assisted-living costs can vary significantly depending on location, facility and level of care. The new ElderFIT calculator lets families adjust the numbers to better reflect their own circumstances.
Users can select:
- Monthly assisted-living costs ranging from $3,500 to $12,500, or enter a custom amount
- In-home personal training costs ranging from $50 to $110 per session
- Training frequency from one to four sessions per week
The calculator then provides a direct comparison between the estimated cost of regular in-home fitness training and assisted living.
Looking Beyond the Cost of a Training Session
The calculator was created to help families look at senior fitness within the larger financial picture of aging.
Maintaining strength, balance, mobility and endurance can help older adults continue performing everyday activities and support their ability to live independently. For adult children helping aging parents, regular fitness can therefore be considered as one component of a broader aging-in-place plan.
The calculator is intended as a financial comparison tool and does not suggest that personal training can replace assisted living, medical care, physical therapy or other services an older adult may need.
Helping Families Plan for Aging in Place
The new tool expands ElderFIT’s growing collection of resources designed for older adults and the family members helping support them.
ElderFIT connects families with personal trainers who work with older adults in their homes, focusing on individual goals such as strength, balance, mobility and maintaining functional independence.
The Fitness vs. Assisted Living Cost Calculator is available for free through ElderFIT.app and can be customized based on a family’s estimated costs and preferred training schedule.
