AUSTIN, Texas - June 17, 2026
ElderFIT, a platform connecting older adults and their families with personal trainers specializing in senior fitness, has launched the ElderFIT Senior Fitness Test, a new tool designed to help older adults better understand their current functional fitness.
The test evaluates key physical abilities that support everyday independence, including lower-body strength, upper-body strength, aerobic endurance, flexibility, balance and agility. Results can provide a baseline that older adults and their families can use to identify areas for improvement, set fitness goals and track progress over time.
“Strength, balance and mobility have a direct impact on the ability to remain active and independent as we age,” said Dave Manzer, Co-Founder of ElderFIT. “We wanted to give older adults and their families a practical way to better understand where they are today and identify areas they may want to work on.”
Based on Established Senior Fitness Research
The ElderFIT Senior Fitness Test follows principles from the established Senior Fitness Test, also known as the Fullerton Functional Fitness Test, developed by Dr. Roberta Rikli and Dr. C. Jessie Jones at California State University, Fullerton.
The assessment focuses on functional abilities that are important for everyday activities such as getting up from a chair, walking, climbing stairs, carrying items and maintaining balance.
ElderFIT's test makes these established functional fitness concepts more accessible to older adults and their families while providing age-based benchmarks for understanding results.
Establishing a Starting Point for Healthy Aging
Rather than focusing on athletic performance, senior fitness testing looks at the physical abilities that help people continue performing everyday activities safely and independently.
By establishing a baseline, older adults can better understand their strengths and identify opportunities to improve areas such as balance, strength, mobility, flexibility and endurance. Repeating the assessment over time can also help track changes in functional fitness.
The launch is part of ElderFIT's broader mission to help older adults remain active, confident and independent through personalized fitness.
